Depending on Mother Nature…

Our 2018 Tree Pick-Up Day is TENTATIVELY scheduled for

FRIDAY, April 27th!!!!      8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Each year Morrison Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) offers thousands of trees to landowners at inexpensive prices.  Over 60 varieties of conifer trees, deciduous trees and shrubs are available to choose from, see below.

Reducing wind erosion, conserving energy, creating wildlife habitat and beautifying the countryside are all benefits of the District’s Tree Program.

The best time to plan for planting trees is a year ahead of time.  Order your trees the summer before you want to plant, or at the latest, early winter.  Keep the area “black”, or tilled the year prior to planting.

The District placed an order with a variety of nurseries in August.

How to Order Trees:

1.   Pick up an Order Form at Morrison SWCD:

                        USDA Service Center

                        16776 Heron Road

                        Little Falls, MN 56345

2.   Call or email, (320) 616-2479 x-101

               or leaann.nouis@mn.nacdnet.net,

and request a Tree Order Form be mailed to you.

Additional facts and information about trees and shrubs can be found by clicking on the link below for each specific species.

If you are considering a new windbreak or re-forestation or filterstrip, the District Staff can assist you with a plan.  They can also order the nursery stock for this windbreak or reforestation.

Ordered trees will be delivered to Morrison SWCD late April or early May for you to pick-up.  April 15th will be the last day that an order can be placed.

If you have any questions or wish to buy trees and/or shrubs that are not included on the order form, please call LeaAnn at (320) 616-2479 x-101, to check for availability.  LeaAnn can special order specific species for you, provided they are available.  Special orders will be sold only in bundles or individual pots.  The size, of the bundles, depends on the nursery’s packaging protocol.

Information from The University of Minnesota Forest Resources Extension…….

This year, Minnesota’s High Risk Oak Wilt Season will begin 10 days earlier than ever before:  Based on recent weather and the flight activity of the beetles that transmit the fungal pathogen.

The University of Minnesota extension maintains the below “Oak Wilt Risk Status” website.  The Logo displays the current oak wilt status for our geographic area.  This status will change automatically as the U of MN updates their website.  Click the U of MN Logo below to read more information regarding Oak Wilt.  The U of MN works with forest pathologists at the US Forest Service’s Northern Research Station to monitor current risk status.
